THE PSYCHOLOGICAL WISDOM OF THE "LORD'S PRAYER."

Sentence # 6: "... And forgive us our trespasses..."

From the perspective of Analytical Psychology, the first s of the "Lord's Prayer" ('Our Father who Art in Heaven') remind us that God (the Self) is the center of the human unconscious. The second sentence of the prayer ('Hallowed be Thy Name') is asking us to view and hold the Self -the center of the inner life or God in us- as sacred and divine. The third sentence of the prayer ("Thy Kingdom come") emphasizes that listening to the Self is psychologically important. The fourth sentence ("Thy will be done on earth, as it is in heaven") suggests psychologically that the ego has the responsibility of fulfilling mentally and physically the directives of the Self or God within. The 5th sentence ('Give us this day our daily bread') may suggest that each person can receive, from the center of the unconscious -the Self or God in us- the necessary psychological and spiritual nourishment to live life daily. What would the sixth sentence ("...And forgive us our trespasses...") mean? That, sometimes, each of us fail to live the greater calling that comes from within us (from God in us or from the Self) and, therefore, we need to ask God in us (or the center of our interior life) for forgiveness for having betrayed ourselves.

(Español) LA SABIDURIA PSICOLOGICA DE LA ORACION "PADRE NUESTRO". Oración # 6: "... Y perdona nuestras ofensas ..." Desde la perspectiva de la psicología analítica, la primera oración del "Padre Nuestro" ("Padre que estás en el cielo") nos recuerda que Dios adentro de Nosotros (el Si Mismo) es el centro del inconsciente humano. La segunda oración ('Santificado sea tu nombre') nos pide que veamos y mantengamos a Dios adentro de Nosotros (el Si Mismo) o el centro de la vida interior como algo sagrado y divino. La tercera oración ("Venga tu reino") enfatiza que escuchar al centro de la vida interior o Dios es psicológicamente importante. La cuarta oración ("Hágase tu voluntad en la tierra, como en el cielo") sugiere psicológicamente que el ego tiene la responsabilidad de cumplir mental y físicamente las directivas del Sí mismo o Dios interior. La quinta oración ("Danos hoy nuestro pan de cada día") puede sugerir que cada persona puede recibir, desde el centro del inconsciente, el Si Mismo o Dios en nosotros, el alimento psicológico y espiritual necesario para vivir diariamente. ¿Qué significa la sexta oración ("... y perdona nuestras ofensas ...")? A veces, cada uno de nosotros no vivimos el llamado interno que proviene del Si Mismo o de Dios adentro de Nosotros y, por lo tanto, hemos de reconocer y pedir a Dios perdón por habernos traicionado a nosotros mismos.
